Pitraga Pietura is a refurbished gate house of Soviet time fishing factory turned into a small cafe on the beautiful north coast of Latvia. The intention was to create a meeting place within an existing structure where, in old times, every worker passed through starting and leaving the work. Silicate brick walls and openings have been preserved, lowering the sills of some windows. Heightened volume with timber cladding and openable shutters with reflective corrugated metal were added blending it into the existing factory environment and landscape. Dynamic pavilion creates covered spaces in summer time while offering a bench for off season travelers when shutters are closed. Various elements such as porches and lamps are found in the factory complex and reused. Dismantled bricks are used for the bar counter.
